After battling pancreatic cancer since 2004, legendary AppleAAPL ) cofounder Steve Jobs died on Wednesday . Jobs was 56 years old and his untimely death ignited a wave of outpouring across the globe, all for a man who Michael Bloomberg said "will be remembered with Edison and Einstein, and whose ideas will shape the world for generations to come." 

Jobs resigned from his post as Apple chief executive earlier in August, fueling suspicion that he was losing his long battle with pancreatic cancer. In a letter released by the company, Jobs asserted:

The new Apple iPhone was officially unveiled on October 4 at a launch event in California, and disappointment started with the name itself. This was not the long-rumored iPhone 5, loaded with tech-forward features and a game-changing design, but rather the iPhone 4S--a sober, iterative, and practical step up from the iPhone 4. The new phone looks exactly like the previous version, so there have been no sweeping design changes to argue about. Because Apple has long been subject to the tyranny of high expectations, a modicum of dissatisfaction was not entirely surprising.

There are several new features, chiefly in the performance category. A new dual-core A5 chipset promises vastly improved speed, power, and graphics performance--without compromising battery life. Gamers and multitaskers would seem to benefit the most here.

American Airlines includes flyer rewards with job creation competition

American Airlines is contributing to a growth and development program that also offers rewards for flyers, according to a press release

The Fort Worth, Texas -based airline is merging efforts with MassChallenge, which is a worldwide start-up that aspires to incubate new businesses. The airline is set to award the equivalent of 130 round-trip tickets. The 26 MassChallenge finalist companies will convene in Boston at the 2011 Award Ceremony on October 24.
