American Airlines includes flyer rewards with job creation competition

American Airlines is contributing to a growth and development program that also offers rewards for flyers, according to a press release

The Fort Worth, Texas -based airline is merging efforts with MassChallenge, which is a worldwide start-up that aspires to incubate new businesses. The airline is set to award the equivalent of 130 round-trip tickets. The 26 MassChallenge finalist companies will convene in Boston at the 2011 Award Ceremony on October 24. 

"American Airlines is focused on providing opportunities for entrepreneurs to grow their businesses, especially in this tough economy ," American's Vice President of sales Derek DeCross said. "We understand the importance of face-to-face meetings in building relationships that lead to new customers and growth. Survey results of our small business customers revealed that a significant majority of them believe face-to-face meetings are essential to their business ' success. Our partnership with MassChallenge provides the opportunity for entrepreneurs worldwide to travel and have those critical meetings necessary to accelerate their growth and success." 

John Hawthorne, the founder and chief executive officer of MassChallenge, said the effort is particularly important during trying economic times. 

Last year's 111 MassChallenge competitors have raised more than $100 million in outside funding while developing almost 500 new jobs during the past 12 months.
